Marketing consists of a set of "strategy" and "tactics".
"Marketing" is a word which indeed has broad meaning and various definitions. In a dictionary, marketing is defined as "a series of activities which companies promote to know the market orientations for effective distribution of their products/services toward customers" while some say it is a market research and some others say it means a kind of sales promotion activities. "STP" for strategy-setting
Strategy-setting for marketing means none other than that of management. "STP marketing" is an effective method of marketing strategy-setting to segment the market to grasp the company's right positioning and decide effective strategies for targeting. Although strategy-setting is basically the role of the management, every one of the organization is required to understand the strategies. To put it briefly, “STP marketing” is a framework by which you can decide how to break down the market and choose the market where you will be targeting.
[4P] for tactics-setting
After deciding strategies, corresponding tactics should be examined. That is identifying "How" to sell "What" "Where" at "What price" to take actual actions. These four fundamental factors for tactics-setting are called 4 P (stands for Product, Price, Place, and Promotion).
Every department should serve as "Marketing Department".
Marketing includes the entire processes until the products/services are thoroughly developed in the market, and is not any exclusive knowledge for a specific group of employees.
All members of corresponding departments such as research/development, planning, manufacturing, sales, and servicing are responsible for performing their duties understanding the strategies and instructions.
