Universities are facing with problems of shrinking market from decline of student's population, increased number of universities, and Lehman's fall, these are all stemmed from rapidly changing social environment around universities. From the wide range of specialized works, what is required most is to take "Leadership to move organization forward", performing coaching job to juniors, negotiating skillfully with customers, teachers and outside organizations, and making a business improvement plan, etc.
The work of general staff can be divided into two big categories. One is to offer services to customers (students and their parents). General staff have most contacts with customers of all staff in a university. It is needless to say communication and negotiation skills and service manners are important. As students'awareness as customers of university augments, the importance of handling manner heightens. What is expected of general staff is to keep questions such as "What do our customers expect of us?" "How we can meet their requirements to be satisfied?" in mind and try to continuously improve CS level.
The other category belongs to managerial viewpoint. It is quite an important part of your role to think about productivity, avoiding possible risks, while dealing with demanding daily duties. In the organization with hierarchical system such as university, it is all the more important to take wider perspective in performing duties than it is in private businesses. To work in team, cooperating over the borders of vertical frames can produce most aggressive productivity sometimes.
