Under the severe conditions of all the retailing industries from department stores to drug stores with less return than the previous year, the companies that have established a mechanism to continue to originate something different from the others have been the only winners. It can be said that the development of human resources that can make changes would be the key to survive in this industry.
Basically, it is the work of retailing to go through same operations repeatedly every day, every month, and every season. Sometimes, it might happen to keep on doing business that are already out of tune with the changes within customers and society without noticing, unconsciously feeling reluctant to have changes in operations. It is important for department and shop managers to keep giving stimulation to team members who tend to work by "familiarity", always being aware of the improvement of operations and changes in works.
It is required for people who are involved in the service industry to have sensibility to feel what customers want, not to mention to have skills and manners that satisfy customers. It is required for all retailing businesses to foster "professionals for sales" who are able to suggest "high-quality life" that customers desire through the products on sale, not just "shop staffs" without error. The organizations which promote self-manufacture have been receiving training to develop human resources who will be leading it.
It is said that skills of the mechanism of logistics have a great impact on the fundamentals of the retailing industry. In particular, it is important for those who are thinking about to reform the system in the near future to start with "visualizing" the flow of goods. It is considered to have a great significance in developing in-house mid-career staffs as executives to have them participate in the operation and have bird's-eye views of the flows of goods and forms, without leaving all the operations to outside professionals.
