1.Decreasing number of travelers overseas
In recent years, demand for overseas travel is becoming low due to negative incidents such as terrorism, volcano eruptions overseas and growth recession derived from too high appreciation of Yen to Dollars as domestic reasons.
2.Not many people can afford to spend money on overseas travel because of prolonged recession
It has been long since overseas trips were enjoyed by ordinary people. It is no more extraordinary thing as it used to be. Nowadays, "Reasonable, Nearby, Short" is becoming the desirable features of the travels.
3.Internet travel agencies are increasing and forcing conventional travel agencies out of business
◆Inbound
While the number of overseas travel is decreasing, inbound travel is having cooperation from Government as they made it one of national policies to strengthen inbound travels, by establishing Japan as a popular tourist site. The target areas are China, Honk Kong and Korea, mainly Asian countries. The government set a budget of 20 trillion yen and is making every effort to disseminate tourism policy of "Welcome to Japan". What is most important is how to make the attractiveness of Japan recognizable all over the world, soliciting people's desire to visit, thus bringing us business and profit. It is five years since this policy is implemented, and still is at the beginning stage. The next few years will be the most important time for travel companies to broaden a market. The winner of this competition will become a leading company of the industry in future. The rumor says a company with renowned reputation of "XX is the place to go, if you wanna decent travel" will appear in the next few years. For this reason, the main movement in the industry is each company is putting a lot of energy into inbound travels.
You will be required to work taking account of many risks which could occur,and with clear understanding of customer's needs at the base of work. There will be abundant chances of negotiation with end-users, local handling agencies, hotels, airline companies, and restaurants, etc. What is most important for you is how you can understand their mind and convince them in a way you want to lead a negotiation to a successful outcome.
You will be writing a lot. Letters and e-mails of apology mainly for rescheduled or canceled travel plan caused by both natural and social disasters such as earthquakes and floods, or strike etc. You will need a skill and basic knowledge to perform these writings promptly and showing sincerity.
It is a fact that there are many cases of handling complaints from customers in this workplace. You will need to have skills ranging from basic telephone manners to advanced techniques of handling complaints. There are many companies which employ business improvement or drawing up a business flow to streamline the work.
